Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve
January 2005

Volunteers check in for duty with Sarah.

Volunteers gather limbs and branches of cut Brazilian pepper to take to the chipper, where they will be ground into mulch.

Volunteer Ray Wunderlich takes the loppers to a stubborn pepper.

Ron Kolsen, an employee with Hillsborough County Mosquito Control, revs up his trusty chainsaw to do battle with more invasive pepper trees. Ron was one of 12 county personnel who volunteered to work on a Saturday to help remove Brazilian pepper from this small park along the Little Manatee River.

Volunteers form a line to the chipper.

All “Give A Day” volunteers receive lunch and a free t-shirt as thanks for their hard work.

Mike Fite of Tampa received the first “Give A Day For The Bay” Volunteer of the Year award. He has participated in every “Give A Day” workday since April 2001! Congratulations, and thanks for your dedication, Mike!
