About 55 volunteers and county personnel worked together to remove almost a quarter-mile of invasive Brazilian pepper from Sun City Heritage Park in Ruskin on February 11, 2006. The “Give A Day” crew worked at this park on three prior occasions. This workday marked the removal of the final stands of Brazilian pepper from this park, making it perhaps the first invasive-free park in Hillsborough County!
Students from the University of South Florida’s Beta Theta Pi fraternity were among the citizens who participated in “Give A Day For The Bay” at Sun City Heritage Park.
Stephanie and other volunteers hauled limbs and branches of Brazilian pepper to chippers operated by county crews. The chippers turned the Brazilian pepper trees into mulch, which was hauled to the county yard waste facility.
