John Chestnut Park Park
May 2006

Volunteers faced a tough task in removing this dense jungle of invasive Boston ferns at Chesnut Park.

This volunteer didn’t mind getting her hands and white pants dirty!

We started out putting all the ferns in plastic bags for disposal…

But there were so many ferns, we ended up just piling them along the road for the park crew to collect and take to the disposal area.

John was part of the planting crew, trying to keep out another fern invasion by planting native plants in the newly cleared area.

What a difference! No more ferns and new native plants to take their place.

Finally – lunchtime!

Betsy shows off her Volunteer of the Year award. She earned it!

Sue and Bob also received well-deserved Volunteer of the Year awards. They just can’t stop working!
