Household chemicals, if improperly used or discarded, can leach into the soil or escape to neighboring waters. You can
protect area waterways by reducing your dependence on these potentially hazardous substances and by monitoring what you
spray on your lawn and pour down your drain.
|
- Never dump motor oil, paints or chemicals of any kind into gutters, storm drains, or sinks. Motor oil can be recycled
at numerous locations, including some local service stations. For information on nearby oil recycling sites, call 1-800-741-4337.
|
|
Hazardous substances like pesticides, fertilizers, oils, paints, and household cleaning products should not be placed in
municipal waste collection where they can seep into groundwater or be burned, releasing toxins into the air. Household chemicals
can be taken to county collection centers or held for special collections.
|
| It is illegal to dump toxic chemicals or waste into storm drains. To report illegal dumping, call your
local stormwater or environmental management department. |
